This is one of Sol Tanne’s “Persian rug” paintings. He painted several still lifes on Persian-carpeted covered tables. Persian carpets (sometimes called Turkey carpets) were often used as table coverings in Western Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This painting is in Janice Hopkins Tanne’s apartment in New York.
